چکیده

A numerical simulation study to quantify the effect of upstream transport and fossil-fuel and biomass-burning emissions from East Asia on the surface ozone near Taiwan has been performed based on data taken April 8e13, 2001, when a cold air outbreak occurred. The TAQM (Taiwan Air Quality Model) is employed in this study. Results show that, without considering emissions in East Asia, upstream transport of chemical species associated with the movement of the cold air mass increased the levels of CO and ozone near Taiwan from 75 to 180 ppbv, and 35 to 55 ppbv, respectively. Fossil-fuel and biomass-burning emissions can thus result in a significant increase of CO and ozone levels (70e150% and 50e100%, respectively) from the emissionless background. The most noteworthy phenomenon is that biomass burning in Eastern China alone can contribute up to 20% of the increase for these species, while the biomass burning in Southeast Asia has negligible influence. 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Effects of tropospheric emissions on global tropospheric ozone distribution: A CTM simulation study

In this work, we examined the effect of tropospheric emissions on tropospheric 1 ozone (O3) by conducting three-dimensional (3D) chemistry transport model (CTM) 2 simulations. For the control run, the CTM model simulates tropospheric O3 levels with 3 a complete set of anthropogenic, biomass burning, and vegetation emissions [8]. For the 4 no-emission simulation, all anthropogenic, biomass burni...

Intercontinental transport of ozone and its precursors in a 3-D global CTM

The coupling of chemistry with atmospheric transport processes provides a mechanism for local and regional pollution from heavily populated continental regions to influence tropospheric composition at hemispheric and global scales. In this study we use the FRSGC/UCI 3-D chemical transport model to quantify the impact of ozone precursors from anthropogenic sources in the United States, Europe an...

Future projection of surface ozone and its impact on crop yield loss over East Asia in 2020

To evaluate the impact of emission change in East Asia on the surface ozone concentration and crop yield loss especially for wheat and rice, we developed a one-way nested global–regional chemical transport model, and conducted 1–year calculations with emission inventories for 2000 and 2020. The model consisted of global and regional CTMs. The global CTM was based on the chemical atmospheric gen...

Diagnosing recent CO emissions and ozone evolution in East Asia using coordinated surface observations, adjoint inverse modeling, and MOPITT satellite data

Simultaneous ground-based measurements of ozone (O3) and carbon monoxide (CO) were conducted in March 2005 as part of the East Asian Regional Experiment (EAREX) 2005 under the umbrella of the Atmospheric Brown Clouds (ABC) project. Multiple air quality monitoring networks were integrated by performing intercomparison of individual calibration standards and measurement techniques to ensure compa...

Atmospheric transport of ozone between Southern and Eastern Asia.

This study describes the effect of pollution transport between East Asia and South Asia on tropospheric ozone (O3) using model results from the Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP). Ensemble mean O3 concentrations are evaluated against satellite-data and ground observations of surface O3 at four stations in India. Although modeled surface O3 concentrations are 1020ppb ...
